Swiss Steak

Swiss Steak is a comforting dish featuring tender beef in a rich, savory tomato-based sauce. It’s easy to prepare and perfect for family gatherings.

  • Total Time: 1 hour 40 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 pounds beef cube steak
  • Seasoned salt (My Y'all Salt works great!)
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 cups unsalted beef broth
  • 1 packet (0.87 to 1-ounce) brown gravy mix
  • 1 can (14.5-ounce) diced tomatoes

Instructions

  • Lightly season beef cube steak with seasoned salt and dredge in flour.
  • Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  • Sear each steak for 4 minutes on each side until golden-brown.
  • Prepare the sauce by combining beef broth, gravy mix, and diced tomatoes in the skillet.
  • Return steaks to the skillet, boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 1 to 1 1/2 hours until tender.

Notes

Use a meat thermometer for perfect doneness.
Let steak rest before slicing to retain juices.
This recipe can easily be doubled for larger gatherings.
