Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups red wine
- 4 sprigs fresh thyme
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 16 ounces steak
- ½ large onion, diced (or 1 medium onion)
- 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
- ¼ cup white wine
- Cooking oil for sautéing
Instructions
- Prepare the marinade by combining red wine, thyme, garlic, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper in a saucepan and simmering.
- Let the marinade reduce by half and cool, then discard thyme sprigs.
- Marinate the steak for at least 4 hours in the cooled mixture.
- Preheat grill or grill pan, grease lightly, and grill steak for 4-6 minutes per side.
- Rest the grilled steak for 10 minutes before slicing.
- Sauté diced onions in a skillet until softened, then add sliced mushrooms and cook until golden brown.
- Deglaze the pan with white wine, cooking until dry.
- Serve grilled steak topped with sautéed mushrooms and onions.
Notes
For added flavor, a splash of balsamic vinegar can be added to the mushrooms post-cooking.
Employ a meat thermometer to ensure the steak reaches desired doneness.
Allow the steak to rest before slicing to retain the juices.
