- 1½ pounds ground beef
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 1 medium green bell pepper, chopped
- 5 cloves garlic, minced
- 3 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning

- ¾ teaspoon salt (or to taste)
- ½ teaspoon pepper (or to taste)
- ¼ cup red wine
- 28 ounces crushed tomatoes (1 can)
- 2 cups tomato sauce
- 2 bay leaves
- ¼ cup fresh parsley, chopped
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
- Brown ground beef for about 3 minutes.
- Add chopped onion and bell pepper; cook until onion softens.
- Stir in garlic, tomato paste, seasoning, sugar, salt, pepper, and red wine; cook for 3 to 5 minutes.
- Add crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, and bay leaves; bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 2 to 3 hours, stirring occasionally.
- Adjust seasoning before serving; garnish with parsley.
Notes
Feel free to substitute ground turkey or sausage.
Make ahead for better flavor the next day.
