- 12 standard or 24 small soft white rolls (23 x 33 cm / 9 x 13")
- 1/3 cup American mustard (bright yellow)
- 12 oz shaved or thinly sliced ham (up to 1 lb)
- 8 oz Swiss cheese slices (10 – 12 slices)
- 7 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- 1/4 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tbsp American mustard
- 1 tbsp poppy seeds
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp garlic powder (or 1 clove fresh garlic, minced)
- 1/2 tsp cooking/kosher salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C).
- Mix melted butter, chopped onion, 2 tbsp mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Cut rolls in half, spreading 1/3 cup mustard on both halves. Place the bottom half in a pan.
- Layer ham and Swiss cheese on the bottom half.
- Bake uncovered for 10 minutes until cheese starts to melt.
- Pour butter sauce over the top half of the rolls.
- Cover with foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes.
- Remove foil, pierce each roll intersection, and bake uncovered for another 10 minutes until golden brown.
- Slice and serve hot.
Notes
Use fresh ham and quality cheese for better flavor.
Experiment with different rolls for variation.
Let sliders sit briefly after baking for flavors to meld.
